Are you ready to visit the UAE? If so, you are not alone! There are numerous sites to see, things to do and places to stay that intrigue all travelers. However, when traveling to a new country that you may not be familiar with, it is important to know how to act, dress and the rules/laws that may be present here. Here are a few things to remember before you visit the UAE.
Best Time for Visiting the UAE
When is the best time to go? The UAE does get hot, very hot for those who are not accustomed to these hot temps. Most of those who are planning their trip for when traveling is not as hot, will find that visiting between October and April are the best months. The temperatures are still warm enough to enjoy the day but are not so hot to make you miserable. Also note, that you may not want to visit during Ramadan as eating and drinking in public can occur after sunset and business hours are erratic.
The Rules of Alcohol
For religious reasons, you are not going to find liquor stores throughout the UAE. However, there are restaurants, hotel bars and the like that do serve alcohol in some areas of the UAE. Be sure to check out the Nightlife and Drinking section to learn more about this process.
Be Mindful of What You Wear
Be mindful of what you are wearing while in the UAE. A few main points to remember:
- Dress modestly
- It is okay to wear beach type of clothing when at the beach
More in-depth information about what to wear can be found here.
Public Transportation while Visiting the UAE
How can you get around while in the UAE? There are several options. However, public transportation is often not the way that tourists are going to want to go. Why is this? The public transportation between cities and small towns that you may want to visit is going to be long or nonexistent. You can rent a car, or even use Uberin some locations throughout the UAE which may be easier for you to travel on your own time.
Be Aware of Public Displays of Affection
While some areas of the UAE are open to tourists showing public displays of affection, most tourists who have visited here simply do not as to be mindful of how offensive this is to the area. Touristy areas are likely to have people showing displays of affection. Even if you are married, be mindful of what you are doing.
Do try the Cuisine!
You are going to find that there are several restaurants that encompass numerous types of dishes throughout the UAE, not just Emirati dishes. However, for the best UAE experience, we recommend that you try some authentic Emirati dishes…as they are delicious!
